Dealing With Windows Vista Errors

Windows Vista caught the attention of Windows users with its state-of- the-art aero-graphical-user interface, enhanced features, and much improved security. Although all these features make working on a Windows PC more user-friendly and safe, the Vista operating system does have its problems.

Some of the common situations in which you may encounter these problems are:

  • Windows Vista stop errors, such as STOP 0x0000000A and STOP 0x000000D1 may occur when you try to upgrade to Vista. These problems usually occur due to the existence of Vista incompatible hardware. So, before performing the upgrade you must ensure that all hardware on your system is compatible and supported by Vista. If it is not, you must remove the incompatible hardware to ensure an error-free operating system upgrade.
  • Error codes, such as error code 0x800710fe that occur when programs try to access or remove files with incorrect file permissions. If this happens, you must first try to modify the permissions of these files to make them accessible. Also, you may try to exclude them from the scanning process of your antivirus software such as Panda antivirus that is known to cause such issues on Vista.
  • Errors while connecting external devices, such as the USB detection error that is generated when you connect a USB device to your PC and the Vista operating system is unable to find and install appropriate drivers. These errors usually occur due to corrupt INFCACHE.1 file that exists in the “C:\windows\inf” folder. To resolve this issue, you first need to delete the existing INFCACHE.1 file and then rebuild it by installing a new USB hardware device.
  • Errors caused due to the existence of obsolete and incompatible files. These errors usually require you to update the programs and device drivers that are generating the errors.
  • Despite of enhanced security features, Windows Vista is not safe from malicious attacks from malware programs, such as virus, Trojans, and spyware. And, if your system is infected by any of these malicious programs, computer errors are inevitable. Therefore, it is essential that you have efficient and of course, Windows Vista compatible, antivirus and antispyware tools on your computer. It is recommended that you opt for tools that provide real-time protection and the automatic definition upgrade feature. These features ensure that your system is protected against the latest malware at all times. Moreover, to ensure complete malware protection, you must take care to schedule regular full system scans to ensure that no malicious information exists on the hard disk.
  • Hard disk problems occur when your hard disk gets cluttered over time with junk data and fragmented due to the continuous addition and removal of information from it. To prevent these hard disk problems, you must use the Windows Vista Disk Cleanup tool on a regular basis to clean up unwanted temporary files, old program setup files, and deleted files stored in the Recycle Bin. After this, you must use the Disk Defragmenter tool to consolidate the fragmented hard disk and further optimize its performance. On Vista, you may schedule the Disk Defragmenter to perform periodic disk defrags to prevent data fragmentation in the first place.
  • Last but not least, it is always a good idea to invest in a Vista-compatible registry cleaner tool that you can use to clean your Vista registry on a regular basis and maintain it at its optimal performance.
